EUROPCAR has signed a partnership agreement with Nissan to supply its branches across Europe with zero-emission, electric vehicles by 2010.
The Europcar Group has already implemented numerous environmental initiatives such as the certification of its Green Charter by Bureau VERITAS in June 2008, implementation of a carbon offset programme and an indication on customer bills of the quantity of CO2 emitted during each rental period. The company also received a prize for its ecological transportation solutions at the World Travel Awards last December.
“Realistically, we anticipate having them available in our fleet in South Africa by 2011,” said Europcar SA CEO, Dawn Nathan-Jones.
“Battery recharging points need to be installed across South Africa first, but we definitely intend to offer our customers who wish to become ‘eco-citizens’ a means of mobility that has a limited impact on the environment.”
